About
A soundly built environment is key and so are strong communities.
At USGBC California we recognize that our buildings and communities are vulnerable to a wide range of short- and long-term risks, especially from climate change. We are taking a leadership role to share national best practices and provide guidance for communities to achieve greater climate resilience at the local level. Climate Resilience Work
Technical Assistance Panel (TAP) Report
ULI’s TAP report focuses on resilience through real estate development, highlighting the Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory (BHAC) in Los Angeles. The report emphasizes community-led resilience hubs that prepare residents for climate challenges like extreme heat and flooding, while addressing historic environmental injustices.
Boyle Heights Resiliency Hub
Many underserved communities face climate impacts first, often with fewer resources. USGBC California, Boyle Heights Arts Conservatory (BHAC), Climate Resolve, the City of Los Angeles, and The American Red Cross are creating a solar-powered resilience center at BHAC. It will provide essential services during disasters with advanced HVAC systems, backup power, and water provisions.
