USGBC California’s Mentorship Program connects green building professionals with students, emerging leaders, and career changers seeking guidance and support.

Whether you’re just starting out or an experienced industry leader, there’s a mentorship opportunity for you.

California Mentorship Program

Choose Your Mentorship Path

As a mentor, you’ll:

  • Strengthen your leadership and coaching skills
  • Expand your professional network
  • Gain visibility in the green building community
  • Earn a Certificate of Completion and digital Mentor Badge
  • Make a meaningful impact on future green leaders

Choose one of the programs to the right to start your mentor journey → Complete the questionnaire → Attend mentor training → Sign the mentorship agreement → Get matched

Perfect for early-career professionals, Green Building Corps alumni, and USGBC California members who want to inspire the next generation.

You’ll share your career journey and help students explore pathways into green building and sustainability careers.

  • Format: Virtual small-group meetings
  • Commitment: 1 hour, one or two times per year

Ideal for professionals at all career stages who want to guide college students, emerging professionals, and career changers entering the industry.

Mentorship takes place individually or in small groups.

  • Format: Virtual or in-person
  • Group Size: 1–3 participants
  • Commitment: 1 hour per month for a minimum of 4 months

Designed for USGBC California members—typically mid- to late-career professionals—who want to support emerging professionals through deeper professional mentorship.

Mentorship happens through committee meetings, networking events, and in-person gatherings.

Includes:

  • Emerging Professionals Committee monthly meetings
  • Mentor Breakfast at the California Green Building Conference
  • Regional events like Green Brews and Women in Green Breakfast
  • Commitment: 1 hour per month plus select in-person events

All mentors complete one 1-hour training session delivered virtually through our Learning Center. Training is offered quarterly.

Training includes:

  • Effective mentoring strategies
  • Communication best practices
  • Goal setting and accountability
  • Conflict navigation
  • Mentorship frameworks for success

After completing training and the short assessment, you’ll receive:

  • Certificate of Completion
  • Digital Mentor Badge

Mentee Training


Mentorship Preparedness Training is offered quarterly during the Emerging Professionals Committee Meetings. Emerging Professionals interested in being mentored must complete at least one training session before being matched.

Training covers: Role of mentors and mentees, setting goals and expectations, communication, resources, and navigating conflicts.

Community Hub Group: Mentees connect with other emerging professionals and mentors via the Emerging Professionals Community on the USGBC California Community Hub.
