About this event
CasaZero serves as a case study, representing a comprehensive approach to green construction by lowering both the operational carbon footprint as well as the embodied carbon footprint. This all-electric home with a solar array produces more energy than it consumes but the main innovation is the use of materials either salvaged within the City of Los Angeles, or produced within 100 miles, to create an artful and beautiful home that resonates with, but does not harm, the environment. The CarbonShack team worked with one of the homeowners, artist and Full Professor at Harvey Mudd College, Rachel Mayeri, whose work focuses on the intersection of art and science, to fill the house with unique designs inspired by nature, specifically the microbiome, with custom light fixtures, tile, fabrics, furnishings cabinetry & millwork, to highlight our need to shift from being consumers of the environment to stewards of it.
The tour will be led by:
Stephen Pallrand, ecopreneur, and Founder, CarbonShack & Home Front Build
Derek Ryder, Lead Architect, CarbonShack & Home Front Build

Through providing education, training, and outreach to engage all sectors such as municipalities, trades, manufacturers, and the general public, we empower and advocate for our local neighborhoods to enhance our collective community resilience and well-being.
