Want to learn more about the basics of a career in sustainability? Join us for a discussion about green jobs that will cover all your questions! The USGBC-LA Emerging Professionals Committee is bringing together a group of expert panelists to answer it all! Expect to gain more knowledge about ESG (environmental, social, and governance) standards, where to get started, what to know, the different fields of these career paths, what employers are looking for, and what you can expect. Our diversely-experienced speakers will present their own experiences before opening up into a Q&A session to directly address your own questions.

Sara Hickman
Senior Vice President, Leading Edge
Sara drives the firm’s business strategy, operations, mentorship, and serves as the team’s ESG / corporate sustainability lead. She has experience guiding architects, developers, property and facility managers through various certifications and the development of corporate Sustainability and ESG strategies. She is motivated by actionable impact and the legacy the Leading Edge Team and its community stands to make on our environment. Sara holds a B.S in Architectural Engineering from Wentworth in Boston and a certificate in Global Sustainability from UCLA Extension.
Robyn Eason
Senior Advisor, Policy & Advocacy, USGBC-LA
From 2016 to 2022, Robyn built an award-winning sustainability program for the City of West Hollywood that anchored the intersectional components of the field that make it such a powerful movement in shaping the way we heal from past and present traumas, uplift all living things, and amplify inclusivity, reciprocity, and equitable outcomes. The program included a portfolio of projects, including electric vehicle charging readiness, clean energy initiatives, water efficiency and conservation, climate action planning, and green building. Her many roles at USGBC and GBCI from 2009 to 2016 included direction of certification activities for LEED for Neighborhood Development, LEED review execution & quality control responsibilities for the LEED Building Design and Construction Rating System, GBCI’s Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Location and Transportation (LT) credits, and other duties related to customer support, business development, and education.
Ben Stapleton
Executive Director, USGBC-LA
A native Angeleno, Ben Stapleton is a recognized sustainability leader who brings a creative mind and consultative approach to a wide range of projects with a focus on building teams and designing programs to deliver impactful results. His current work is based on coordinating an ecosystem leveraging the built environment as the entry point and connective fabric to help create a more sustainable society for all as Executive Director for the U.S. Green Building Council – Los Angeles.
In his time at USGBC-LA, he has strengthened the foundation of this leading, membership-based sustainability organization while developing and delivering a portfolio of community engagement and education focused programming centered on climate justice, high-performance buildings, occupant health, corporate sustainability and regional resilience; establishing talent development and a people-first philosophy as the pillars of the brand.
Our Emerging Professionals (EP) Committee convenes fresh new perspectives from some of the brightest minds rising in our sector. This group helps to support all of our committees and serves as a pipeline for emerging talent to grow into leadership positions within USGBC-LA and their own organizations.
